Adventures of the Rocky Mountains

Hello Friends, today is our last rest day in Colorado where we have had an eventful and exciting week. On June 14th we arrived in Steamboat Springs where we visited with the residents of Casey’s Pond Memory Care.

On June 15th we began the day by climbing up the Rocky Mountains through a notorious 8-mile, 3,000 ft elevation route called Rabbit Ear’s Pass. After the exhausting climb, we all made it to the top and celebrated. After the 77-mile bike ride that day, we arrived at our cabins in the woods in Gould. That night we were surprised by long-time Bike4Alz supporter, Dana Hesse who brought us barbecue! Also, that night while we were exploring around sunset, we saw a moose!

The next morning, June 16th we woke up and climbed 15 more miles to Cameron Pass, our peak elevation of the trip at 10,276 ft. Afterwards, we enjoyed a beautiful 55-mile downhill along a small road running parallel to white water rapids. This day was also the 21st birthday of rider Ben Betts where, fittingly, we had an event at Maxline Brewing Co in Colorado Springs where the team enjoyed live music and celebrated.

After a much-needed rest day, we woke up on June 18th and biked 80 miles to Denver. That night, we stayed with Andy and Rick who have always provided great hospitality to Bike4Alz teams as they come through Denver. The next day we attended a Colorado Rockies baseball game with our tickets being graciously provided by Doug Draper.

The following day, we had the pleasure of biking with Doug, who joined us for all of our 75-mile ride into Colorado Springs. That morning the team woke up at 5:30am and biked all day and, crunched for time, went straight to Whistle Pig Brewery, where we had an event from 5-8pm. Exhausted, we all enjoyed a good night’s rest. We woke up in the morning and enjoyed breakfast from the amazing church members of Fellowship of the Rockies. After that we went to Bear Creek Assisted Living and talked about our mission to the residents and had the opportunity to sit down and visit with the residents and hear their stories.

Coming up, we have a long stretch through the rest of Colorado and Kansas including our 120-mile day (June 23rd). This day is our biggest fundraising day as we attempt to accomplish this feat. We ask for donations for our cause, you can donate through our website or Venmo @Bike-4-alz
