Elijah Hopkins

Hey everyone, my name is Elijah Hopkins. I am currently a senior at Western Kentucky University, majoring in political science and journalism. I am originally from a small town named Adairville in Logan County, Kentucky, just a short drive from Bowling Green and WKU.

I first heard of Bike4Alz during my freshman year, 2020-21, when one of my friends told me stories of this crazy thing that his fraternity brothers were going to do over the Summer. At first, I could hardly even understand the scope of the organization, and asked, “How?” how does a group of men roughly my age do something so incredible? Eventually, I rushed FIJI and got to see firsthand the quality and character of the men who did the trip, and I understood. Having now found myself in their shoes, following in the path they have treaded, I am incredibly humbled to be a part of Bike4Alz Team 11. Personally, seeing the effects of Alzheimer’s on those close to me, and the devastating effect it has on the population as a whole, there wasn’t a second thought about applying.

To list all of the reasons to make this journey would be impossible. The most important, though, has to be as a tribute and in service to those afflicted by Alzheimer’s and support those fighting in the great fight to slow down, and eventually defeat the disease.
